Easter 2012

As we hoped the Easter bunny didn´t forget us this year. He joined our dive in Charco del Palo and to our great surprise (and fun) he brought two Easter-fairies with him. Diving LanzaroteThey didn´t only accompany our dive, they also hid small chocolate Easter bunnies underwater. Our guests and friends from FCDC Diving Club Lanzarote had great fun searching for them in the deeeep waters of the Atlantic ocean. Easter Bunny

Although the searching was very successful, not all of the bunnies managed to come to the surface. Some of them vanished in the deep throats of the divers, immediately after they had been found. Those who arrrived on the surface, suffered a similar destiny in the divebreak. We think (and hope) all divers had great fun and enjoyed our little Easter hunt. We look forward to Easter 2013 and hope, the Easter rabbit has some new challenges for us....

Carnival 2012

Carneval with DaivoonYear by year the carnival procession travels around our beautiful Lanzarote and makes a stop in Costa Teguise. Unfortunately we can´t dive all day long, so we use to spend our evenings at funny places/festivities. That´s why we took friends, guests and ourselfs to town - right into the centre of Costa Teguise.

Carneval with DaivoonThere we enjoyed a cold beer and delicious food and had a funny time waiting for the procession. As always it came late, but colorful, flashy and with the rythmic sounds of samba - typical for the canary islands.

Carneval with DaivoonTo cut a long story short: We danced, laughed and spent a pleasant evening. The procession is certainly one of the highlights that Lanzarote has to offer and Daivoon enjoyed beeing there!!

Carnival Opening 2011/2012

Carneval with DaivoonNow it’s here the time for fun
you cannot stop it once it has begun.
Everyone I hope you´r ready!
Let´s jump right in and take it steady.

The 11.11.11 is the first Carnival day,
for us this is a great excuse to play,
believe it or not some people find these days bad,
the fact they miss out on such fun is sad.

Fools however don’t just live on dry land,
they also dwell between the water and the sand.
In a tunnel where we were peeping,
a yellow-green-blue dotted red fish was creeping.
Carneval with Daivoon

As a guide he was very dutiful,
he showed us that the underwater world is very beautiful.
We thank you Mr polka dot fish
We hope you don´t end up on someones dish!

Carneval with DaivoonAnd so Daivoon commenced the Carnival season,
we very much enjoy the opportunity to be silly for no reason.

Daivoon wishs everyone a lot of fun in the carnival season and of course we hope all of you celebrating carnival day or just for having fun for no reason have a good time.

Temple Hall London - Telamón

Temple Hall LondonThe Temple Hall London was swepted onto the coast nearly 30 years ago and now offers great views for both snorkelers and divers alike (especially photographers). Around about one quarter of the ship is underwater with a max depth of about 8m - 10 m; that´s why it is suitable for all diver levels despite the fact it´s such a large wreck.

Tempel Hall LondonWreck-lovers like the wreck because it is split apart and in the rear are a lot of machines and engine parts exposed. Experienced divers can dive a couple of metres into the wreck, but only those who have perfect buoyancy - otherwise there is a high risk of injury on some of the sharp edges. Deeper into the wreck can only be explored, by those with a special wreck course, using ropes as guidelines.

About 40 metres away from the rear lies the bow of the ship, which is completely underwater at high tide. This part of the wreck has a depth range of between 8-10m and is a great dive for parents and their kids to explore. This part of the wreck is well broken with good light conditions, but still worth taking a torch for looking into the many openings. Life on the wreck is varied with octopus, cuttlefish, small rays, nudibranch, sea hares, barracuda and many other fish species - A fantastic dive site offering something for everyone.

Love is in the water...

A Try dive with a difference: We pick up Isabela and Przemyslaw from their hotel and bring them to the diving centre. So far so good. Isabela is a little bit nervous, but much more stressed seems Przemyslaw. Soon we find out why: he wants to pop the question - a proposal of marriage underwater - and he asks for our help.

No problem: we pack our underwater slate, a bottle of sparkling wine (to clink glasses after the dive)and our camera and we are off to Playa Chica. Isabela suspects nothing.
There we conduct the try out dive, but with a special twist at the end: for written on the dive slate Przemyslaw asks Isabela if she wants to marry him. Isabela has sparkling eyes which sparkle even more when Przemyslaw presents the ring.Engagement
The abundant fish life bares witness as Isabela accepts Przemyslaw´s hand in marriage. Both of them surface all smiles and aglow with happiness.EngagementAn unforgettable dive for both of them and we look forward to welcoming them back, perhaps for their honeymoon!!!

The Daivoon dive team heartily congratulates the happy couple and wishes them all the very best for the future!!!

Charco del Palo

Charco del PaloThis dive site is situated on a rocky shore line in the north of the Island and is typical volcanic of the island as a whole. Huge lava fields once flowed from the volcanic interior down into the ocean to form this stunning underwater environment. There are lots of beautiful overhangs, caves and tunnels to explore and the site offers a rich diving experience for both old hands and the less experienced diver alike.

There are also extensive sand-areas to explore where the likes of angel sharks and rays can be found. These sandy areas are interrupted by lave-tubes which play host to a wide diversity of life, nudibranchs, crabs, shrimps, moray eels, damsels, barracuda, grouper etc.). The sandy areas drop off like a ski-slope inte the inky depths of the ocean, hovering here for a moment or two to gaze out into the blue one gains an appreciation vastness of this spectacular underwater realm.

All in all: Charco del Palo offers a diver all their heart can desire: Various species from large to small, tunnels, caves and stunning rock formations. Both photographer and adventure diver alike will get their money´s worth, no two dives are the same and always something new to explore.

Daivoon moves IV – The new dive center in Costa Teguise

Step by Step!!

...that´s the way we do the final decoration of our new centre. Basically that means a lot of drilling and screwing to hang up our pictures and to relocate our relics (the oldest are from about 1958 - the ancient history of diving).building of Daivoon

What a pong! Did you know vinegar is perfect for cleaning the windows - we didn´t, but we do now! We now have completely clean windows after many hours of scrubbing and you can finally see through them.building of Daivoon
Best of all: Michi drilled her first hole in a wall and liked it - lucky that, as we still have a LOT more to drill, so we leave her to it and pop next door for coffee.

building of DaivoonWe proudly present a few of the centre staff´s achievements: For all of Goetz´s certifications we find a place on our Wall of Fame. Of course we left a little space for his newest achievement: Goetz accomplished the 10th Level of SSI and with that he assures his place in the SSI Hall of Fame, with more than 5000 logged dives. Our congratulations to him on that great achievement!!!

Playa Chica

One of the most varied dive sites on the island is Playa Chica. It offers spots for everybody - no matter if you are a swimmer, snorkeler, or diver - beginner or professional. With 3 different entries points (we choose one depending on your abilities) you have the possibility to find many ways to explore this beautiful dive site (0m to 40m).
Loads of fish, big groupers, nudibranches, moray eels, cuttlefish, sea hares and sand eels, which peep out of their sand holes and disappear as you draw near. If you are lucky, you can find angel sharks and different types of rays on this dive site as well.

The most important spots:

Cathedral: CathedralThis cave can be visited by a couple of people at once - it´s approximate size is 100m². Particular attractions are the beautiful sponges at the rear of the cave and the black coral on the left side of the entrance. The cave opening is on a sloping sand floor and it´s worth keeping your profile to around the 30m mark so as you don´t waste too much of your bottom time. No danger of getting lost on this one, the cave narrows after about 10m or so to and can be treated as large overhang. It´s worth taking a torch however as it really brings out the beautiful colours, also watch out for shrimp and arrow crab in the many crevices.

Dieters Bay: This bay offers "confined water" - conditions and because of that we use and recommend it for try out dives, courses, kids-diving and refresher courses. But compared to a pool, you can see thousands of things like anemones, crabs, starfish, sea urchins, cuttlefish, loads of fish and much more.

Blue Hole: End of ReefThis spot leads to a breakthrough - a tunnel-like formation snaking down through the top of the reef wall. The top is at about 20 metres and the bottom end breaks out at about 30 metres. It offers the possibility to dive through the reef and lends itself to some very atmospheric camera shots. Next to the Blue Hole are some small caves and holes where groupers are frequently seen.

Dieters Place: Past a small wreck and alongside a beautifully festooned reef wall we find Dieters Place - here we find an impressive fan coral, another popular spot for photographers. Dieters Place is also home to a piece of local history in the form of a memorial to one of the Islands local divers.

End of Reef: At the end of the reef we find large shoals of sardines, which are quite breathtaking especially with an incredible spectacle, when barracudas, bonitos or tunas are in the area hunting for their next meal.
