El Emisario in Playa Blanca

El Emisario is a divesite in Playa Blanca in the south of Lanzarote. There are 2 extensive tubes that make orientation very easy and mark entry and exit. The dive guides you along a massive lava tongue down to max. 18m. This lava formation is used as a haven for many species that represents the fauna of the Canaries.

This divesite in Playa Blanca is popular with a variety of species of rays and angel sharks. Pay particular attention to the many overhangs and crevices which often play host to beautiful anemones, cleaner shrimp, moray eels and slipper lobster. At the end of the rock is a small cliff, where you can find dusky grouper, moray eel, island grouper and the majority of the collective sea life in the Canaries. The contrast between the rock and the sand allows you to see species from both environments at a depth less than 20 meters!

Playa Coloradas
Las Coloradas looks like a long bridge (puente) across the sea bed that lies at around 16 meters depth.

From the dropping point, you can dive in either direction, keeping the ´wall´ on either your left or right side. The topography of the rock formations were sculpted by the lava flows that were once dominant on the island, making it a really popular place for morays and shrimps to hideout!

There are marvelous anemones and a break through as well, which gives you great opportunities for pictures.

Being quite a shallow boat dive with a maximum of only 18m, makes Las Coloradas an excellent dive for both experienced divers and beginners.

Atlantic Museum

The Atlantic Museum is the first underwater art museum in Europe. It is situated in front of the coast in Playa Blanca and can be accessed only with a boat.

You descend on a safety buoy, which makes it accessible for beginners as well. The guide will take you along a given route, which leads you to a max. depth of 17m in approx. 45min. You will see a large artificial reef formed by sculptures made with neutral pH concrete that over time encourages a variety of life to grow on them. Every statue has its own story to tell and is symbolic of a topical commentary on society today. Our specially trained Eco Dive Guides will give you further details to the meaning of the different statues.

Atlantic Museum

It is not allowed to touch the statues, as they are covered already in marine life. Jason de Caires Taylor, the artist who built this museum, wants to highlight the bond between art and nature. His intention is to make visitors more aware of the importance of the sea and all of its natural resources.

The Atlantic Museum offers not only statues but also a lot of marine life. Triggerfish, angelsharks and big shoals of fish live in the area surrounding the dive site.

Punta de la Pared - Angelshark

This is a divesite with a canyon in the north of the island. Divers need to kit up by the car and cross the rocks towards a small horseshoe formation in the lava which forms a small bay. On the right hand side you should find a small metal ladder, at high tide it is safe to jump, but at low tide the bottom is only about 1.5m deep. This tricky entrance makes it a site for the more adventurous and experienced divers.

This divesite offers a wide variety of sights for divers from advanced level and upwards. The use of this site depends largely upon the weather, but when we get the opportunity, we love to explore this special area.

The highlight is a large sized fissure in the rock. This is an excellent area to find crabs, urchins, nudibranchs or bigeye red bream. The flat sandy areas are ideal for spotting angelsharks and rays of many different sizes.

This divesite is perfect for divers that don´t mind a tricky entrance as the maximum depth is about 20-25 meters. The relatively shallow depth has no impact on the opportunity for seeing wildlife however, as this site is excellent for spotting barracuda, moray eels, slipper lobster and octopus, as well as many other endemic species.

Punta de la Pared - Reef
The canyon opens out at about 15m with the vertical reef wall on your right shoulder, the left falls away to a sandy bottom at about 20m. As you keep the reef wall to your right, out to the left you will see a number of large solitary rocks in the sand about 10 – 15m out. These are well worth a look round as there is a good chance to see large rays and angle sharks.
Punta de la Pared - Canyon

To the right of the entry point we find the canyon. It is about 10 meters deep and it is only wide enough for single file.
The crack runs for about 35m and is a good spot for shrimps and crabs, with many nooks and crannies. There is a direct line of ascent to the surface at all times, ensuring a safe and enjoyable place to explore. Divers should exercise caution however, as it is home to a large number of spiny urchins.

Los Ancones

The Los Ancones reef, is a typical northern reef: a natural staircase brings you to a small reef at about 12m depth.

You have all the time you need to have a look for sponges, fish, nudibranchs etc. Loads of nosy fish accompany you. There is a seagrass meadow, which is rare in Lanzarote. Its usually filled with a lot of marine life. You will also find shoals of fish and there is a good chance to see angelsharks and rays as well.

The max. depth is 20m, which makes it a great divesite for Open Water Divers, photographers and divers who don´t want to go to deep. This divesite is especially nice for photographers since the seagrass meadow sets a beautiful scene and since it is not too deep you have a bunch of natural light to brighten up your pictures.

Due to the fact that this site is rarely dived you have an abundance of marine life and they are very curious about us divers.
